More than 750 kilos of cannabis and some weapons were seized Tuesday in the Loire, where 73 people were taken into custody in order under the dismantling of a large drug trafficking, prosecutors announced by the Republic of Saint-Etienne and Montbrison.
Almost all the detainees were kept in custody to view Tuesday evening, affirmed the two judges during a press conference at the station in Saint-Etienne.
Starting from 06H00, about 400 police officers and gendarmes have carried out the arrests in a group of buildings of a city in the region peaceful and Saint Etienne in the Plaine du Forez, with the participation of regional intervention group (GIR) from Lyon .
The 750 kilos of cannabis from Morocco and estimated at EUR 1.2 million, were found on board a Mercedes, hidden in a garage Unieux (Loire), at Saint-Etienne. She was destined for the department.
Several weapons - Kalashnikovs, guns pump, large-calibre pistols and five grenades -, as well as about 70,000 euros in cash were also seized.
Two others were arrested at their homes in the Seine-Saint-Denis where they were placed in custody in sight. They were to be transferred Wednesday in Saint-Etienne.
"The arrests made in the Paris region we suggest that the ramifications of this hidden economy far exceeded the framework of the Loire," said Didier Perroudon, departmental director of public security of the Loire.
"The history of a part of the traffickers arrested in the area of Saint Etienne led us to make use of units of GIPN (Intervention Unit of the National Police)," said for his part the prosecutor of Saint-Etienne, Jacques Pin.
Since it is drug trafficking, police custody may last until Friday, said a judge stressing that the initial presentations to judges of Saint-Etienne and Montbrison would take place from Wednesday afternoon .
